Website Programming Languages
Chapter 2.3, in which we continue to discuss the puzzle pieces that compose a website, resuming with back-end and front-end programming languages as well as some distribution technologies.
Now that we’ve covered web hosting, databases and content management systems in the previous section, let’s discuss the programming languages that power modern websites:
PHP is a common scripting language use to connect to and draw from the database,
HTML and CSS display and format content for browsers,
JavaScript provides interactive capabilities, and
XML and RSS provide syndication capabilities.
Website Scripting Languages
A website scripting programming languages to create database-driven websites. Scripting languages provide a set of instructions that web developers use to tell a web browser how to display content and interact with users.
There are many scripting languages used in web development, including:
PHP: A server-side scripting language that is used to create dynamic websites and web applications. PHP code runs on the web server before the page is sent to the user's browser, allowing for dynamic content generation.
Python: A popular general-purpose programming language that is often used in web development for creating web applications, back-end services, and other server-side applications.
Ruby: A dynamic, object-oriented scripting language that is often used in web development for creating web applications and back-end services.
Perl: A general-purpose scripting language that can be used in web development for handling form data.
JavaScript: A widely used scripting language, JavaScript is a client-side language that runs on the user's computer and is used for creating interactive user interfaces and is most commonly used to gather data for website analytics purposes.
Each scripting language has its own syntax, strengths, and weaknesses. Web developers choose a scripting language based on the requirements of the project and their own experience and preference.
What Is PHP?
PHP stands for "Hypertext Preprocessor." (Yeah, I know; it takes a great leap of imagination to conjure PHP as an acronym for Hypertext PreProcessor. I guess that since the first P is derived from “Pre,” that gives you license to put a P in front of the H? Whatever.)
It is a popular server-side scripting language used for creating dynamic web pages and web applications. PHP is an open-source language and is the scripting language used to build the WordPress content management system.
PHP is designed to work seamlessly with HTML and CSS, making it a popular choice for web development. It can be embedded directly into HTML code, allowing developers to create dynamic web pages that can change content based on user input or other variables.
Some common uses of PHP include:
